(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 21)—The McKendree University women’s track and field team kicked off its 2008 indoor season Saturday at the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Ill.
A trio of Bearcats earned top-10 finishes in the meet, led by junior
Lanece Clarke (Nassau, Bahamas/C.R. Walker) (Nassau, Bahamas). She earned third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.16 seconds before grabbing sixth place in the 60-meter dash in 7.90 seconds.
Junior Sophy Yapsabilla (Kampala, Uganda) raced to a fifth-place finish in the 3,000-meter run. Yapsabilla covered the distance in a time of 10:46.71. Rounding out the list of individual finishers was junior Tammara Francis (St. Catharine, Jamaica), who was third in the long jump with an effort of 17 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
The McKendree women’s 4 x 400-meter relay team took seventh in a time of 4:14.48.
The Bearcats will return to action Friday and Saturday at the Gladstein Invititational, which is being hosted by Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind.
