McKENDREE GETS BACK ON WINNING TRACK WITH 72-50 WIN OVER BRESCIA

Elders paced the Bearcats with 20 points and six rebounds
(LEBANON, Ill. – Jan. 24) – The McKendree women’s basketball team rebounded from their loss on Tuesday with a 72-50 win over visiting Brescia University Thursday night.
 
The Bearcats, now 12-8 overall, host Columbia College Saturday for a American Midwest game at 2 p.m. The Bearcats and Cougars are currently tied for second in the conference.
 
Senior forward Heather Elders (Energy, Ill./Herrin) (Energy, Ill./Herrin) led all scorers with 20 points and six rebounds. Junior guard Kelsey Park (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) had 13 points and four assists, and sophomore Haley Klingelhoefer (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) and junior Emily Best (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) were the only other Bearcats in double-figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
 
The first half saw seven ties before the Bearcats scored seven-straight points in the final 1:30 of the first half, taking a 36-29 into the half. The Bearcats would not relinquish their lead in the second half and steadily built up their lead to 22 points, and came away with the 72-50 win.
 
The Bearcats shot 43.1-percent from the field in the game, including 57.1-percent from behind the arc, compared to 32.3-percent from the field and 22.7-percent from behind the arc. McKendree also held a 44-39 advantage in rebounding.
