(EDWARDSVILLE, Ill., Oct. 11)—The McKendree University cross country teams were in action Saturday at the Border Wars Invitational, which was held Saturday in Edwardsville, Ill.
The Bearcat men's squad took 13th place out of 16 teams competing in the event. Sophomore Elias Melly (Eldoret, Kenya) recorded the best individual finish for McKendree. Melly was 11th covered the eight-kilometer course in a time of 26:45.
The McKendree women did not post a team score as just two team members raced on Saturday. Senior Sophy Yapsabila (Kampala, Uganda/Bubulo) (Kampala, Uganda) was 17th overall with a time of 19:24, while freshman Jasmine Penny (Sparta, Ill/Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) took 68th place. She covered the five-kilometer course in a time of 20:45.
McKendree will race again on Oct. 25 at the Southeast Classic in Mt. Berry, Ga.
