(WALNUT RIDGE, Ark., Oct. 14)—The McKendree University volleyball team suffered an American Midwest Conference loss Tuesday at Williams Baptist College. The Bearcats won the first set 25-19, but the host Eagles bounced back to take the final three sets and the match, 25-17, 25-19 and 25-23.
The loss gives McKendree an overall record of 11-12, while the Bearcats slip to 6-4 in the AMC. Williams Baptist moves to 13-8 on the year and 2-7 in league play. McKendree will return to the court Thursday with an AMC contest against Missouri Baptist. First serve is set for 7 p.m. It will also be “Dig For The Cure” night at the Melvin Price Convocation Center as the Bearcats join in the fight against breast cancer. Special pink t-shirts will be on sale for $5, and there will be raffles for various prizes donated by businesses within the community. All proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation.
At Williams Baptist, senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) led the way for McKendree with 10 kills and six blocks. Senior right-side hitter Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) added nine attacks, while freshman Kaitlin Kollman (Collinsville, Ill./Metro-East Lutheran) chipped in with seven kills. Freshman setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) posted a team-high 16 assists, and senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) was right behind with 14.
Junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) handled a team-leading 24 digs, while junior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) (Festus, Mo./Festus) added 20 digs.
The win gives Williams Baptist a split of the regular-season series with McKendree. The Bearcats swept the Eagles back on Sept. 9 in Lebanon.
