KOMBRINK JOINS BEARCATS 1,000-KILL CLUB AS VOLLEYBALL TEAM DROPS AMC MATCH AT WILLIAM WOODS

Katelyn Kombrink is just the fifth player in Bearcat volleyball history to reach the 1,000-kill mark

(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 24)—The McKendree University volleyball team was defeated in four sets by William Woods University in an American Midwest Conference match Friday evening in Fulton, Mo. The host Owls won by scores of 25-22, 30-32, 25-19 and 25-20.

 

The loss sends the Bearcats back to the .500 mark at 14-14 overall. McKendree is now 8-5 in AMC play. The Bearcats will have the weekend off before heading to Columbia, Mo., on Monday for a conference battle against Columbia College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.

 

McKendree senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) joined some select company during Friday's match by becoming just the fifth player in school history to record 1,000 career kills. Kombrink registered 11 attacks against William Woods, bringing her career total to 1,008. Kombrink becomes the newest member of the Bearcats' 1,000-kill club, joining a list that includes Brooke Portz (1,310 kills), Chrissy Simones (1,245), Amanda Dorries (1,121) and Tricia Winter (1,018). Kombrink also served up three aces against William Woods to boost her career total to 176. Kombrink is four service aces away from tying Karen Eversgerd (180) for second place on the McKendree career list.

 

Against William Woods, senior right-side hitter Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) and junior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) (Festus, Mo./Festus) each added seven kills, while senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) handed out a team-leading 21 assists. Kombrink paced the team with six blocks Junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) registered 29 digs as sophomore defensive specialist Lindsay Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) had 19 digs, Lucas added 18 and Maedge was right behind with 17.

 

Lacey Olin had a match-high 13 kills to lead William Woods, which moved to 15-12 overall and 8-3 in the AMC.
