(Lebanon, Ill., Oct. 30) – The No. 8 McKendree University men's soccer team won its second consecutive American Midwest Conference regular season championship Thursday night after defeating Williams Baptist College 4-0.
The Bearcats, 13-3-1 overall, host NCAA Division II Druruy University Tuesday, November 4 at 7:30 p.m. It is McKendree's last game of the regular season and they will also celebrate senior night.
McKendree flashed its firepower early in the contest on sophomore Max Stainmez (Holland, Ontario, Canada/Denison)'s (Holland Landing, Ontario, Canada) goal in the sixth minute from freshman Fraser Williams (Rhondda, England/) (Rhondda, Engalnd). The Bearcats took a 2-0 lead on a goal by freshman Richard Henderson (Dundee, Scotland/Lawside Academy) (Dundee, Scotland) from freshman Thomas Ward (Frodsham, England). Sophomore Sam James (Southampton. England/Tauntons) (Southampton, England) found Ward 49-seconds into the second half to give the Bearcats their third goal of the game. The fourth goal came in the 79th minute on an own goal by Williams Baptist.
McKendree freshman goalkeeper Joe Sagar (Oldham, England/Hulme) (Oldham, England) improved to 12-3-1 on the season after playing 80:58 in goal and tallying four saves. Junior Braden Posey (Bolingbrook, Ill./Naperville Central) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Naperville Central) played 9:02 minutes in goal and had one save.
