(HANNIBAL, Mo., Oct. 30)—The McKendree University volleyball team posted an important American Midwest Conference victory Thursday night at Hannibal-LaGrange College. The Bearcats defeated the Trojans in five sets, and the scores from the contest were 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 22-25 and 15-8.
The win pushes McKendree to 15-15 overall and 9-6 in AMC play. The Bearcats will host Greenville College in a non-conference match Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
Senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) had a team-high 12 kills to lead the way for McKendree. Kombrink moved past Tricia Winter for fourth place on the Bearcats' list for career kills during Thursday's match, pushing her career total to 1,024. Kombrink also served up two aces on Thursday which gives her 179 in her Bearcat career. That is one away from tying Karen Eversgerd for second place on the team's all-time list. Melissa Dorsey holds the McKendree program record with 188 service aces.
Senior right-side hitter Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) added 10 kills in Thursday's contest, while junior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) (Festus, Mo./Festus) collected eight attacks and 21 digs. Senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) registered 21 assists as freshman setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) posted 18.
Junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) posted a team-high 22 digs, while Maedge notched 20 and Bayer had 13.
McKendree was able to complete the season sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange (13-22, 5-11 AMC). The Bearcats swept the Trojans back on Sept. 30 in Lebanon.
Saturday's match will mark Senior Day at the Melvin Price Convocation Center. Prior to first serve, McKendree will honor its four senior volleyball players: Kombrink, Amerson, Maedge and setter Jessica Ellsworth (Greenville, Ill./Greenville).
