(ST. CHARLES, Mo., Oct. 3)—The McKendree University volleyball team had its three-match win streak halted with a pair of losses Friday at the Lindenwood University Invitational in St. Charles, Mo. The Bearcats were swept by host Lindenwood before dropping a hard-fought four-set match to Evangel University.

The losses give McKendree an overall record of 10-8. The Bearcats will wrap up its stay at the Lindenwood Invitational with two more matches on Saturday. McKendree will meet William Jewell College at 9:30 a.m. before taking on Olivet Nazarene University at 1:30 p.m.

Against Lindenwood, the host Lions rallied for a win in the first set and built its momentum from there, sweeping the match by scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-13. Senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) led McKendree with six kills and five blocks, three of which were solos. Senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) chipped in with a team-high 13 assists, while junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) handled 17 digs.

After Evangel won the first set of the evening's final match, McKendree battled back to edge the Crusaders and even the match. The teams battled through the final two sets as well, with Evangel scratching out the final two sets to win the match by a count of 3-1 (25-18, 25-27, 28-26 and 26-24).

Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) once again paced McKendree with 15 kills. She also added three assisted blocks and a pair of service aces. Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) posted 21 assists and Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) registered a season-best 30 digs. Sophomore middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) notched three solo blocks, while sophomore defensive specialist Lindsay Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) matched Kombrink with two service aces.
