VOLLEYBALL TEAM FALLS TWICE IN FINAL DAY OF LINDENWOOD INVITATIONAL

Dana Maedge posted 38 sets in McKendree's two matches on Saturday

(ST. CHARLES, Mo., Oct. 4)—The McKendree University volleyball team wrapped up its stay at the Lindenwood University Invitational on Saturday with a pair of non-conference losses. The Bearcats went the distance with William Jewell College before the Cardinals won in the fifth and deciding set. McKendree was then swept by Olivet Nazarene in the Bearcats' final match of the weekend.

 

The losses drop McKendree to 10-10 overall. The Bearcats will close out the first half of their American Midwest Conference schedule on Tuesday with a home match against the University of Illinois at Springfield. First serve at the Melvin Price Convocation Center is set for 7 p.m.

 

Against William Jewell, McKendree lost the first two sets before rallying back to edge the Cardinals in the third and fourth sets. However, William Jewell was able to outlast the Bearcats and win the deciding set by five points. The Cardinals won by scores of 25-17, 25-21, 23-25, 23-25 and 15-10.

 

Senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) registered a season-high 18 kills to lead the way for McKendree. Senior right-side hitter Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) added 13 attacks, while sophomore middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) contributed 11 attacks and a team-best five blocks.

 

Senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) handed out 26 assists, followed by freshman setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) with 19. Junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) recorded 29 digs while sophomore defensive specialist Lindsay Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) added 20 digs and Maedge had 19.

 

Olivet Nazarene was the Bearcats' final opponent at the Lindenwood Invitational. The Tigers cruised to victory in the first set and never looked back in posting the sweep over McKendree. Scores from the match were 25-15, 25-22 and 25-20.

 

Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) posted a team-best six kills and four blocks, while Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) had four attacks. Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) registered 12 sets as junior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) (Festus, Mo./Festus) notched eight digs.
