(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 1)—The McKendree University volleyball team rolled to a non-conference sweep of Greenville College on Saturday at the Melvin Price Convocation Center. The Bearcats won the best-of-five match by scores of 25-8, 25-16 and 25-19.
Fittingly, on Senior Day at McKendree, it was a trio of seniors that led the way for the Bearcats. Senior right-side hitter Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) led a balanced offensive attack with nine kills, while senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) added seven kills. Senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) handed out a team-best 21 assists for McKendree, which improved to 16-15 with the win.
Kombrink also had four service aces to move past Karen Eversgerd for second place on the Bearcats' career list. Kombrink now has 183 aces and is five away from tying Melissa Dorsey for the top spot in McKendree volleyball history.
Junior outside hitter Dani Collins (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) (Freeburg, Ill./Freeburg) chipped in with seven attacks for the Bearcats, while junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) posted 13 digs.
McKendree will be on the road Wednesday for its final American Midwest Conference match of the season against the University of Illinois at Springfield. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
