(Lebanon, Ill., Nov. 11) – The McKendree men's soccer team scored two second half goals to defeat Columbia College, 2-0, Tuesday in an American Midwest Conference tournament semifinal game.
No. 13 McKendree, now 14-3-2 overall, is the No. 1 seed in the American Midwest Conference tournament. They will host No. 4 Hannibal-LaGrange College, the No. 2 seed, Friday at 5 p.m.
After a scoreless first half, McKendree got on the board in the 49th minute on a goal by freshman Thomas Ward (Frodsham, England) from sophomore Sam James (Southampton. England/Tauntons) (Southampton, England). The Bearcats struck again in the 68th minute on an unassisted goal by freshman Fraser Williams (Rhondda, England/) (Rhondda, England) to give the Bearcats a safe 2-0 lead where it remained.
Freshman goalkeeper Joe Sagar (Oldham, England/Hulme) (Oldham, England) played all 90 minutes in goal and had four saves in the shutout win. He improved to 13-3-2 on the season.
