(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 14)—The McKendree University hockey team was edged at home Friday night by Northwestern University, 4-3. The contest was played in Fairview Heights.
McKendree falls to 10-4 on the year and will host Northwestern again on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the U.S. Ice Sport Complex.
After a scoreless first period, Northwestern grabbed a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the second period. McKendree answered with just under four minutes left in the stanza on a goal by freshman wing Jordan Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic). But the Wildcats netted a goal with just 43 seconds left in the period to regain a two-goal advantage at 3-1.
Senior wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) brought the Bearcats back within 3-2 on a power-play goal early in the third period. After another Northwestern goal, Donze found the back of the net for his second goal of the contest to account for the final margin.
Freshman wing David Coleman (Greenville, Ill./Fort Zumwalt West) dished out a pair of assists for the Bearcats. Junior Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) stopped 33 shots in taking the loss in goal for McKendree.
