McKENDREE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM WINS HOME OPENER OVER MILLIKIN 62-51

Fullerton had seven steals in the home-opening win

(Lebanon, Ill. – Nov. 18) – The McKendree women's basketball team never trailed by more than one and led by as many as 14 in a 62-51 win in their home opener over Millikin University.

 

McKendree, now 2-4 overall, will host Culver-Stockton College Saturday at 7 p.m.

 

Senior forward Emily Best (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) led the Bearcats with 14 points and nine rebounds and sophomore guard Katie Fullerton (Coulterville, Ill./Coulterville) (Coulterville, Ill./Coulterville) had 12 points and a career-high seven steals. Her steal total on Tuesday night is second all-time at McKendree for a single game behind Nancy Wild's eight against Greenville in 1990. Millikin's Elise Wildman led all player's with 15 points and nine rebounds.

 

McKendree started the game with a jumper by Best 1:50 into the game and the scored remained there until Millikin's Whitney Schwartz hit a three-pointer at the 16:11 mark to take the lead. Both teams traded baskets until the Bearcats slowly built a nine point lead on a Fullerton layup with 6:04 remaining in the half. McKendree came out of the half and built a 14 point lead at the 8:59 mark and never led by less than 10 down the stretch to lockup their second win of the season.

 

Despite being outscored by Millikin in the paint and on second chance buckets, McKendree scored 19 points off of 25 Big Blue turnovers. McKendree also shot 48-percent from the field to Millikin's 25-percent.
