(Lebanon, Ill. – Nov. 26) – The McKendree University women's basketball team came out running and never trailed in a 74-56 win over Maryville University Wednesday night. The Bearcats have now won four straight games.
McKendree, now 5-4 overall, will host No. 25 Olivet Nazarene University Tuesday, December 2nd at 7 p.m.
Sophomore guard Ashley Agee (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) led all players with a game-high 25 points and also pulled down 8 rebounds. Senior forward Emily Best (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) (Wood River, Ill./Wood River-East Alton) was the only other Bearcat in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds. Senior guard Kelsey Park (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) had game-high six steals in the win. Allie Wilhelm and Rachel Viehmann led the Saints with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Wilhelm also had 12 rebounds to record the double-double.
McKendree led by single digits for the majority of the first half, before a layup by Agee with 7:37 left in the first half put the Bearcats ahead 26-16. McKendree pushed the lead to 38-20 on a three-pointer by junior forward Amanda Schuring (Gilberts, Ill./H.D. Jacobs) (Gilberts, Ill./H.D. Jacobs) with just over three minutes left in the half. McKendree led 39-24 at halftime after a layup by Maryville's Mikal Bencomo.
McKendree opened the second half on another run and led by 20-plus for the majority of the second half and led by as much as 25 late in the second half. Maryville got as close as 73-56 with 45-seconds remaining in the game, but the Bearcats halftime lead proved to be too much in the 74-56 win.
McKendree outshot Maryville 40.9-percent to 29.7-percent from the field. The Bearcats also scored 21 points off of Maryville turnovers.
