HOCKEY TEAM ROLLS PAST SIU-EDWARDSVILLE (SILVER), 8-1

Scott Roberts picked up three points against SIU-Edwardsville

(FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill., Nov. 7)—The McKendree University hockey team got back on the winning track Friday evening with an 8-1 victory Friday at home against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (Silver). The match was played at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.

 

Junior center Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) and freshman wing David Coleman (Greenville, Ill./Fort Zumwalt West) each tallied four points in leading the Bearcats to the win. Donze registered a goal and three assists, while Coleman picked up two goals and a pair of assists.

 

McKendree is now 10-3 on the year and will wrap up a home-and-home series with SIU-Edwardsville (Silver) on Saturday at 8 p.m. in East Alton.

 

Senior defenseman Brooks Boeschen (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) handed out three assists, and senior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) notched a goal and two assists in the victory. Roberts and Coleman each scored on the power play for McKendree.

 

The Bearcats raced to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by senior wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) and Donze. The Cougars cut the deficit in half and trailed by one entering the second period. In the middle stanza, McKendree took control by scoring five times. Coleman and Roberts each scored twice in the period, while senior wing Ryan Haeffele (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) also found the back of the net.

 

Senior wing Zach Evans (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) finished off the scoring in the third period with a shorthanded goal early in the third period. Junior Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) picked up the win in goal for McKendree.
