(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 5)—The McKendree University hockey team notched its 12th victory of the 2008-09 season Friday with a 4-1 win at home against Bradley University.
Junior Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) stopped 30 of 31 Braves shots in goal as the Bearcats' defensive unit limited an opponent to just one goal for the third time this season. McKendree moves to 12-4 on the year and will host Bradley again Saturday at 3 p.m., at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.
Freshman wing Jordan Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) netted the only goal of the first period to give McKendree a 1-0 lead. Senior wing Zach Crawford (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) made it 2-0 early in the second period before Bradley scored its only goal of the contest with three minutes left in the stanza.
Senior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) helped the Bearcats regain a two-goal advantage early in the third period before senior wing Z.T. Evans (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) tallied the final goal for McKendree with just over eight minutes to play.
Senior wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) handed out two assists for the Bearcats.
