(CHARLESTON, Ill. – FEB. 22) – The McKendree University men’s indoor track and field team had national qualifiers in eight events at the Eastern Illinois University Friday Night Special meet.
Senior Chris Bethel (Nassau, Bahamas) and sophomore Mike Mendez (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) both finished in second place in 60m hurdles and 1000m run, respectively. Junior
Steve Hammond (Port More St. Catherine, Jamaica/St. Jago) (Port More St. Catherine, Jamaica) and
Brian Steele (Dixmoor, IL/Thornton) (Dixmoor, Ill./Thorton) finished in third place in the shot put and long jump, respectively.
Other qualifiers were senior
Jermaine Myers (Manchester, Jamaica/Holmwood) (Manchester, Jamaica) with a sixth place finish in the 800m run. Myers joined junior
Keron Thomas (Port More St. Catherine/Kingston College) (Port More St. Catherine, Jamaica) and sophomores Jeff Brown (Marion, Ill./Marion) and
Jordan Perry (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) in the for a 4x400m relay 7
th place finish. Senior
Julius Williams (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) and freshman
Zach Atkins (DuQuoin, Ill/DuQuoin) (DuQuoin, Ill./DuQuoin) were the only other mens qualifiers, finishing in 7
th place in the triple jump and 9
th place in the 60m dash, respectively.
All Bearcat qualifiers will travel to Johnson City, Tenn. March 6-8 to compete at the NAIA Indoor Championships held at the Memorial Center.
