(KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 14)—The McKendree University women's tennis team won two doubles matches and got three wins in singles to defeat William Jewell College, 5-3.

The team of sophomore Maria Occhipinti (Bahia Blanca, Argentina) and junior Jenny Mennerick (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill.O'Fallon) defeated Allison Cobb and Nikki Chambers at No. 1 doubles, 8-5, and junior Lauren Szakielo (Troy, IL/Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) and senior Kelly Beiermann (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette Catholic) won No. 3 doubles over Ann Lewis and Megan Groninger, 8-3.

In singles action, Occhipinti defeated Sydney Mela 6-3, 6-2, to win No. 1 singles. Junior Erin Thoman (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) defeated Anglea Gambino at No. 4 singles and Beiermann defeated Groninger, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles to pace the Bearcats to the win.

The Bearcats travel to Missouri Baptist University Tuesday for a match at 4 p.m.
