(LEBANON, Ill., April 25)—The McKendree University men's tennis team was defeated in non-conference play Wednesday at Washington University, 7-2.
The Bearcats took one of three doubles matches and earned just one victory in singles competition. The loss sends McKendree to 9-7 on the year. The Bearcats will play Lindenwood University in the semifinals of the NAIA Region V Tournament Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
Against Washington University, the No. 2 doubles pairing of freshman Timon Reichelt (Germany/) (Germany) and sophomore Daniel Gonzales (Lima, Peru) won a hard-fought 8-6 decision. The Bearcats' lone singles win came in the No. four slot, where Gonzales won in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-1.
Washington University improved to 14-3 overall with the win. The Bears are ranked No. 2 in NCAA Division III.
