(ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 28)—The McKendree University women's tennis team defeated William Jewell College and Benedictine College, both by scores of 5-2, to win their second Region V title in the last three years.

The Bearcats won two doubles matches and three singles matches against William Jewell to get the win. Senior Sara Johnson (Effingham, Ill./Effingham) and junior Erin Thoman (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) won No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and McKendree also won No. 3 doubles with the team of junior Lauren Szakielo (Troy, IL/Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) and senior Kelly Beiermann (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette), 8-2. Thoman, Beiermann and Szakielo also had singles wins.

On Sunday against Benedictine, McKendree swept doubles play and picked up wins from junior Jenny Mennerick (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) at No. 2 singles (6-4, 6-2) and Szakielo at No. 6 singles (4-6, 6-1, 6-4).

The 28^th Annual NAIA Women's Tennis Championships take place May 12-16 in Mobile, Ala., at the Mobile Tennis Center.
