(ST. LOUIS., April 8)—The McKendree University women's tennis team defeated the University of Missouri at St. Louis, 6-3, on Monday in St. Louis.

McKendree, 3-3 overall, trailed 2-1 after doubles competition, but rallied by winning five of their six singles matches to get the win. The duo of senior Sara Johnson (Effingham, Ill./Effingham) and junior Erin Thoman (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) defeated Sara Davidson and Annie Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-1, for the lone doubles win.

In singles action, sophomore Maria Occhipinti (Bahia Blanca, Argentina) defeated Stephanie Thompson at No. 1 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6. At No. 2 singles junior Jenny Mennerick (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) defeated Sara Davidson, 6-1, 6-0, and senior Sara Johnson won No. 3 singles over Molly Striler, 6-0, 6-2. McKendree won two of their last three matches to secure the win. Junior Erin Thoman (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) defeated Yuki Takashima, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles and at No. 5 singles senior Kelly Beiermann (Godfrey, Ill./Marquette) defeated Annie Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-1.

McKendree will return to action Thursday at home against Lindenwood University. The match is rescheduled from last week, which was postponed due to inclement weather.
