(ELGIN, Ill., August 30) – The No. 18 McKendree University men's soccer team picked up its second win of the season Saturday with a 4-1 win over Taylor University.
The Bearcats, now 2-0 overall, will host Missouri Valley College Wednesday for their home opener Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
It only took McKendree two minutes to get on the board in the contest and took the 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Max Stainmez (Holland, Ontario, Canada/Denison) (Holland Landing, Ontario, Canada). Freshman midfielder Richard Henderson (Dundee, Scotland/Lawside Academy) (Dundee, Scotland) got the Bearcats on the scoreboard again in the 30th minute after taking an assist from freshman midfielder Thomas Ward (Frodsham, England) to take a 2-0 lead.
Taylor University scored a goal shortly after the second half started to cut the McKendree lead in half, only for freshman midfielder Fraser Williams (Rhondda, England/) (Rhondda, England) to find Ward for a goal in the 60th minute. McKendree put the game out of reach with only six minutes remaining when a shot by senior forward Eric Frierdich (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) hit the post and Williams scored off the rebound to make the score 4-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Joe Sagar (Oldham, England/Hulme) (Oldham, England) improved to 2-0 on the season after playing all 90 minutes in goal and recording six saves.
