(MILWAUKEE, Wis., August 31) – The McKendree University women's soccer team out-shot No. 9 St. Xavier University 17-2 Sunday afternoon, but played to a 1-1 tie after two overtimes at the Cardinal Stritch tournament.
The Bearcats, 1-0-1 overall on the season, will host Missouri Valley College Wednesday night for their home opener at Leemon Field at 5 p.m.
The Bearcats wasted no time in the contest as freshman midfielder Sulyn Keomanivane (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) found junior forward Sarah Ryan (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) for her third goal of the season only two minutes into the game. St. Xavier countered in the 20th minute on a goal by Jessica Martinez and evened the score 1-1.
McKendree had its chances in the contest, but couldn't score and the game ended a 1-1 tie after two overtime periods.
Sophomore Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) played all 90 minutes in goal for McKendree and had one save in the win.
