(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 18)—Junior center Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) notched a hat trick, and four other players tallied two goals each to lead the McKendree University hockey team to a 13-7 victory Sunday on the road against the University of Missouri.
 
The Bearcats were able to earn a split of the weekend series against Missouri after falling 10-5 in Saturday's regular-season opener. McKendree, now 1-1 on the season, will return to action Sept. 26 at Eastern Illinois University.
 
Senior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem), senior wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo), senior wing Zach Crawford (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) (Springfield, Ill./Pleasant Plains) and freshman wing Jordan Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) each netted two goals in the victory. Junior wing Nick Smothers (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) and senior wing Zach Evans (Columbia, Ill./Columbia) also scored for McKendree. Roberts and Zach Evans each collected three assists in the effort.
 
McKendree raced to a 4-0 lead midway through the first period. Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal 4:31 into the contest. Jordan Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) added a pair of even-strength goals before Dreyer scored on the power play. After leading 4-1 after one period of play, the Bearcats broke loose with six goals in the second period. Evans started the scoring frenzy just 2:13 into the period as six different McKendree players scored in the stanza.
 
Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) finished off his hat trick six minutes into the third period with a power-play goal. Roberts' second goal of the contest, at the 10:09 mark, rounded out the Bearcats' scoring for the day and put McKendree in front 13-5.
 
A trio of goalkeepers saw action for McKendree, with each playing one period. Junior Dustin Schildknecht (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) drew the start and made nine saves. Freshman Kelsey Medina (Highland, Ill./Twin Bridges) (Highland, Ill./Twin Bridges) stopped seven shots in the second period, and junior John Moore (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) picked up nine saves in the third period.
