(St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 23) – The No. 4 McKendree University men's soccer team improved to 8-0-1 on the season and 1-0 in the American Midwest Conference after a 4-0 win at Harris-Stowe State University Tuesday afternoon.
The No. 4 ranking in the NAIA is the highest the Bearcats have ever been ranked in men's soccer. The previous high for McKendree was No. 5 in the week one NAIA poll in 2006.
The Bearcats went to work quickly in the contest, as sophomore Sam James (Southampton. England/Tauntons) (Southampton, England) scored unassisted 59-seconds into the game. McKendree struck again in the 24th minute when a shot by James was deflected to the right side where freshman Max Vogl (Herzogsreut, Germany/) (Herzogsreut, Germany) streaked one past the keeper for the 2-0 lead. James scored again unassisted in the 63rd minute for his second goal of the game and third of the season. The Bearcats closed out the scoring in the 64th minute on a goal by freshman Fraser Williams (Rhondda, England/) (Rhondda, England) for the 4-0 win.
Freshman Joe Sagar (Oldham, England/Hulme) (Oldham, England) improved to 8-0-1 on the season with the shutout win, while registering four saves. Junior Braden Posey (Bolingbrook, Ill./Naperville Central) (Bolingbrook, Ill./Naperville Central) also played 17 minutes in goal and had two saves.
