(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Sept. 3)--The McKendree University volleyball squad kicked off its 2008 season with a three-set sweep of Webster University Wednesday in St. Louis. The Bearcats won by scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-12.
Senior middle hitter Katelyn Kombrink (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) led a balanced offensive attack with eight kills while adding six blocks. Senior right-side hitter Lindsay Amerson (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) chipped in with seven attacks and five blocks, while junior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) made her McKendree debut with a team-leading eight blocks.
Senior setter Dana Maedge (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland) dished out 18 assists in the effort, and junior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) handled a team-high 10 digs.
McKendree, now 1-0 on the year, will be in Point Lookout, Mo., this weekend for the College of the Ozarks Invitational. The Bearcats will play two matches each on Friday and Saturday, beginning with a 1 p.m. match on Friday against the host College of the Ozarks.
