McKENDREE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TEAM USES BIG SECOND HALF TO NOTCH SECOND STRAIGHT AMC WIN

(HANNIBAL, Mo.. – Jan. 24) – The McKendree University women's basketball team came through in the clutch Saturday afternoon to defeat Hannibal-LaGrange College, 82-72, for their second-straight American Midwest Conference win.

 

McKendree improved to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference, while Hannibal-LaGrange fell to 7-12 overall and 4-2 in the AMC. McKendree will host Brescia University in a non-conference matchup Tuesday night at 7 p.m.  McKendree lost at Brescia on November 24th in a close one, 52-50.

 

Sophomore guard Ashley Agee (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) (Moberly, Mo./Moberly) led all players with 18 points and junior forward Amanda Schuring (Gilberts, Ill./H.D. Jacobs) (Gilberts, Ill./H.D. Jacobs) tied her career high with 16 points. Senior forward Emily Best (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) (Wood River, Ill./East Alton-Wood River) scored 15 points and had seven rebounds, while sophomore guard Katie Fullerton (Coulterville, Ill./Coulterville) (Coulterville, Ill./Coulterville) had 10 points. Senior guard Kelsey Park (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) (Wildwood, Mo./Eureka) had also had six points, four assists and three steals in the contest. Freshman Kerry McDermott led the Trojans with 16 points in the loss.

 

The game was a back-and-forth affair until the Bearcats made a late run led by three buckets from behind the arc from Schuring to seal the win. McKendree shot 44 percent from the field to narrowly edge out 40 percent from Hannibal-LaGrange. The Bearcats also had 10 three pointers while the Trojans made seven.
