(CHESTERFIELD, Mo., Oct. 19) – The No. 11 McKendree University women's soccer team edged Missouri Baptist University 2-1 on Monday at the Chesterfield Athletic Complex in Chesterfield, Mo.
No. 11 McKendree, now 11-1-2 overall (6-0 AMC) will host Hannibal-LaGrange College on Thursday, October 22 at 6 p.m.
The game was knotted in a 0-0 tie after the first half of play, but senior midfielder Alex Adams (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) took a pass from senior forward Sarah Ryan (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) and scored from the left side to give McKendree a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. The lead was short lived though, as Taylor Hay took a pass from Christina Burton one minute later and scored from the right side to tie the game 1-1. Ryan earned a penalty kick in the 61st minute after being fouled in the box and gave the Bearcats a 2-1 lead after shooting it past the Spartan keeper's left side for the game-winning goal.
Junior Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) played 90 minutes in goal and had seven saves to improve to 11-1-2 overall on the season.
