(PEORIA, Ill., Oct. 24)—The McKendree University hockey team completed a weekend sweep at Bradley University with a 6-2 victory Saturday in Peoria.
Graduate defenseman Chris Donahue (Levittown, Pa./Truman) (Levittown, Pa./Truman) scored two goals and added two assists, while sophomore wing J. David Coleman (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) chipped in with a goal and three assists in the win. McKendree is now 6-4 on the season and will return to action Nov. 6 with a road contest at Missouri State University.
McKendree fell behind 1-0 before reeling off four straight goals to grab a 4-1 lead after the first period. Junior defenseman Kyle Clark (Waterloo, IL/Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) knotted the score at 1-1 before Coleman tallied at the 6:15 mark of the period to give the Bearcats the lead for good.
Senior center Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) made it 3-1 before Donahue scored his first goal of the contest with just three seconds left in the period to close out the flurry for McKendree. Donahue then found the back of the net for the only goal of the second period and a 5-1 Bearcat advantage.
Junior wing Nick Smothers (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) closed out the scoring for the Bearcats with just under two minutes left in the contest. Smothers also added two assists in the victory.
Senior goalie Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) posted 29 saves to grab his second victory in as many nights in goal for McKendree.
