No. 10 BEARCATS DEFEAT HARRIS-STOWE 7-0 TO CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON

Keomanivane scored two goals in the win on Thursday
(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 29) – The No. 10 McKendree University women's soccer team closed out its regular season with a 7-0 win over Harris-Stowe State University. The game was called after 70 minutes of play due to lightning in the area.
 
No. 10 McKendree, now 15-1-2 overall (10-0 AMC), will will be the top-seed in the American Midwest Conference tournament and will play on Monday, November 9th.
 
Sophomore forward Sulyn Keomanivane (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) put McKendree on the board in the 20th minute on an unassisted goal and senior defender Katelyn Cleveland (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) (Collisville, Ill./Collinsville) scored a header goal on corner kick by junior midfielder Ashley Varns (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) in the 27th minute to put the Bearcats up 2-0. A ball in the box bounced off a Harris-Stowe defender;'s leg into the goal in the 29th minute to put McKendree up 3-0 and an unassisted goal by freshman midfielder Danni Warren (Stockport, Cheshire, England/Wilmslow) (Stockport, England) pushed the Bearcats to 4-0 lead at the half.
 
McKendree showed no signs of slowing down their offense in the second half and took a 5-0 lead in the 47th minute on a successful penalty kick by Keomanivane for her second goal of the game. Varns scored on a pass from junior midfielder Theresa Kaiser (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) in the 48th minute and Kaiser scored the seventh and final goal of the game unassisted in the 55th minute to close out the regular season for McKendree with the 7-0 win.
 
Junior Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) and sophomore Cassi Lofink (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) split time in goal for the Bearcats to earn the team shutout. Niether keeper faced any shots in the contest.
