(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Oct. 3)—The McKendree University volleyball team wrapped up the first half of its American Midwest Conference schedule Saturday with a three-set sweep of Harris-Stowe State University Saturday in St. Louis. The Bearcats rolled to the sweep by scores of 25-13, 25-9 and 25-2.
McKendree notched its second match victory in three days to improve to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in AMC play. The Bearcats return to action Wednesday at home with an AMC match against Hannibal-LaGrange College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
Against Harris-Stowe, junior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) led the offensive attack for McKendree with 10 kills and four solo blocks. Junior middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) posted seven kills, while senior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) (Festus, Mo./Festus), junior outside hitter Tara Ryterski (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) and sophomore right-side hitter Melinda Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) each chipped in with six attacks.
Junior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) registered 19 assists, while senior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) handled a team-best 17 digs. Sophomore setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) had 10 assists and a match-high four service aces for the Bearcats.
