(FULTON, Mo., Oct. 31)—The McKendree University volleyball team was swept Saturday in a pivotal American Midwest Conference match at William Woods University. The Bearcats were swept in the best-of-five match by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-18.
The loss drops McKendree to 16-13 overall and into fourth place in the AMC standings at 10-5. William Woods locked up the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament with the victory.
Junior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) and junior defensive specialist/outside hitter Lindsay Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) shared team-high honors with seven kills for McKendree. Junior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) dished out 13 assists while sophomore setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) chipped in with 11 assists. Senior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) handled a team-best 19 digs for McKendree.
McKendree will return to action Tuesday in non-conference play at the University of Illinois at Springfield.
