(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 7)—The McKendree University volleyball team collected its third consecutive victory by taking an important American Midwest Conference match Wednesday at home against Hannibal-LaGrange College. The Bearcats won by scores of 25-20, 26-24, 19-25 and 25-23.
The Bearcats battled their way to victory in the first two sets before the visiting Trojans took the third set and led late in the final set. However, McKendree bounced back by winning the final two points to hold off Hannibal-LaGrange. With the win, the Bearcats moves to 10-7 overall and 6-3 in the AMC. Hannibal-LaGrange slips to 10-8 on the year and 5-3 in league play.
Junior middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) paced McKendree with 14 kills and five solo blocks. Junior outside hitter Tara Ryterski (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) and junior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) each collected nine kills, while senior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) (Festus, Mo./Festus) chipped in with eight attacks.
Sophomore setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) had a team-best 20 assists, while junior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) was right behind with 19 sets. Five different McKendree players reached double figures in the digs column, led by 19 each from senior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) and senior defensive specialist Kristina Paisley (Waterloo, Ill./Gibault) (Waterloo, Ill./Gibault).
Abbie Imbierowicz led all players with 17 kills for Hannibal-LaGrange, while Cara McQuality handed out a match-high 37 assists.
