(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 10) – The second-seeded McKendree University men's soccer team was upset by No. 3 seed Park University, 1-0, in double overtime on Tuesday night in the semifinals of the American Midwest Conference tournament.
No. 16 McKendree, now 15-2-2 overall, is now seeking an at-large bid into the NAIA National Championship and will find out their postseason fate when pairings are announced on November 15.
The game was evenly matched with the Pirates holding a narrow edge in shots on goal, 5-1, over the Bearcats. After a scoreless 90 minute regulation and one 10 minute overtime period, Park's Matthew Ashman took the ball on the right side and took a shot to the left post for the game winning goal. The Pirates advance to the AMC tournament championship game and will face top-seeded Columbia College on Friday at 6 p.m.
Sophomore Joe Sagar (Oldham, England/Hulme) (Oldham, England) played just over 101 minutes in goal for McKendree and had four saves in the contest.
