(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Nov. 11)—The No. 3 McKendree University wrestling team defeated No. 13 Missouri Baptist University 46-4 to win their second dual of the season.
The Bearcats will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., on November 14 to compete at the University of Central Missouri Open at 9 a.m.
The Bearcats started the dual with a win at 157 pounds by sophomore Matt Beasley (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) by major decision over Sam Kassing 15-4. McKendree followed Beasley's win by winning their next two matches by pin. Junior David Dwyer (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) pinned Gerald Harris at 165 pounds in 50 seconds and senior Andrew Cheesman (Mt. Carmel, Ill./) (Mount Carmel, Ill./Mount Carmel) defeated Grant Wood by fall in 2:16 at 174 pounds. Following forfeit wins at 184 and 197 pounds, senior heavyweight Cedric Powell (Duncan, Okla./Duncan) (Duncan, Okla./Duncan) won a major decision over Mike Wakim, 11-1, but the Spartans broke up the shutout with a win by Zach Murry over A.J. Ciccarelli (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) at 125 pounds. Junior Wade Lowe (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) pinned Gary Brook of Missouri Baptist in 2:08 at 133 pounds and sophomore Kyle Williams (Scott Air Force Base, Ill./Mascoutah) (Scott Air Force Base, Ill./Mascoutah) picked up a win at 141 pounds over Robert Nickson in a 7-2 decision. Freshman Marquinten Bryant (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) closed out the dual match with a 19-2 technical fall win over Matt Salzer at 149 pounds.
