(MARSHALL, Mo., Nov. 21)—The No. 3 McKendree University wrestling team lost its first dual of the season, 25-13, on Saturday night at Missouri Valley College.
The Bearcats will travel to Columbia, Mo., on November 22 to compete at the University of Missouri Open at 9 a.m.
After an opening loss at 125 pounds, junior Wade Lowe (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) pinned Jesse Knotte to take a 6-3 lead. The Vikings won the next three matches to extend their lead to 16-6, only for junior David Dwyer (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) (South Beloit, Ill./Hononegah) to win a 6-5 decision over Damon Jackson at 165 pounds to cut the deficit to 16-9. Missouri Valley won their next two matches to lead 22-9 heading into the final two matches of the dual. A major decision win by junior Andrew Sanchez (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon) (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon) made the score 22-13, but a decision loss at heavyweight ended the dual and gave the Bearcats their first blemish on their dual record this season.
