(WALNUT RIDGE, Ark., Nov. 7)—The McKendree University volleyball team closed out its 2009 regular season with a four-set victory Saturday at Williams Baptist College. The Bearcats took the best-of-five contest by scores of 25-21, 14-25, 25-21 and 27-25.
With its victory on Saturday, McKendree clinched the No. 3 seed in next week's American Midwest Conference Tournament. The Bearcats will play host to Williams Baptist in an AMC Tournament quarterfinal contest Tuesday at 7 p.m. McKendree will take an 18-14 overall record and 11-5 league mark into the post-season.
At Williams Baptist, sophomore right-side hitter Kaitlyn Kollmann (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro-East Lutheran) led the offensive attack with 12 kills. Junior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) and sophomore setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) each dished out a team-best 19 assists in the victory.
Senior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) registered 20 digs for the Bearcats. Junior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) had five blocks, including two solos, while sophomore hitter Melinda Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) added four blocks.
