No. 10 McKENDREE ADVANCES TO AMERICAN MIDWEST CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WITH 2-0 WIN OVER HANNIBAL-LaGRANGE

(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 9) – The No. 10 McKendree University women's soccer team used a late surge to defeat visiting Hannibal-LaGrange College 2-0 in the American Midwest Conference tournament semifinals.
 
Top-seeded McKendree, now 16-1-2 overall, will host No. 2 seed Missouri Baptist University on Thursday, November 12 at 6 p.m., at Leemon Field.
 
The Bearcats narrowly missed scoring opportunities toward the end of the first half, but neither team would find the back of the net through the first 45 minutes. The Bearcats broke the scoreless tie in the 72nd minute on a goal by freshman forward Carlee Luehmann (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) on an assist by senior forward Sarah Ryan (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) to take a 1-0 lead. Ryan scored an insurance goal in the 80th minute on an assist by junior midfielder Theresa Kaiser (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) to give McKendree the 2-0 win.
 
Junior goalkeeper Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) improved to 16-1-2 in goal on the season and grabbed one save in the win. The shutout was Yanko's eighth of the season.
