VETERANS POWER BEARCAT HOCKEY TEAM TO 13-3 HOME WIN OVER SIU-EDWARDSVILLE (SILVER)

Nick Dreyer scored three times in the Bearcats' 10-goal win over SIU-Edwardsville

(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 6)—The McKendree University hockey team received big scoring efforts from a trio of veteran players on its way to a 13-3 victory Friday at home against Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (Silver).

 

Junior center Charlie Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) led the charge with four goals and two assists. Senior wing Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) netted three goals with an assists, while senior center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) handed out five assists. McKendree recorded its third straight win to move to 17-5 overall. The Bearcats will have a week off before closing out the regular season next Friday, Feb. 13, at home against the University of Missouri. Face-off is set for 8 p.m.

 

The Bearcats jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 26 minutes of play. Donze scored three of his goals during the opening outburst, including a power-play and shorthanded tally. After grabbing a 6-0 lead after the first period, McKendree extended its margin to 10-1 through two periods of play.

 

Freshman wing David Coleman (Greenville, Ill./Fort Zumwalt West) added a goal and two assists in the victory for McKendree. Also scoring in the victory for the Bearcats were senior defenseman Jordan Thompson (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade) (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade), senior defenseman Chris Donahue (Levittown, Pa./Truman) (Levittown, Pa./Truman) and freshman wing Jordan Donze (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic) (Fairview Heights, Ill./Althoff Catholic).

 

Junior Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville) spent the first two periods in goal for the Bearcats. He made 17 saves in picking up the victory. Junior John Moore (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) stopped seven shots in the final 20 minutes of action.
