ECKELKAMP TIES SCHOOL RECORD WITH FOUR ASSISTS TO HELP LEAD No. 12 McKENDREE WOMENS SOCCER TEAM TO 13-0 WIN IN CONFERENCE OPENER OVER HARRIS-STOWE

(ST. LOUIS, Mo., Sept. 15) – Junior defender/midfielder Sarah Eckelkamp (Arnold, Mo./Fox) tied a McKendree University single game school record on Tuesday with four assists to help lead the No. 12 Bearcats to a 13-0 win over Harris-Stowe State University in their American Midwest Conference opener.
 
McKendree, now 3-1-1 overall and 1-0 in the AMC, will travel to St. Charles, Mo., on Thursday to face Lindenwood University at 7:30 p.m.
 
The Bearcats dominated the Hornets from the start and outshot Harris-Stowe 36-1 in the contest. 10 McKendree players accounted for 13 goals and three players scored their first collegiate goal in the game. Junior midfielder Kyla Nighohossian (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) took a pass from Eckelkamp (Arnold, Mo./Fox) and scored the first goal of the game after only 43 seconds. Junior midfielder Ashley Varns (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) took a pass from senior defender Kelsey Johnson (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) and scored to give McKendree a 2-0 lead two minutes into the game. Eckelkamp scored unassisted in the 11th minute and provided her second assist of the game in the 13th minute to sophomore forward Sulyn Keomanivane (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) to give the Bearcats a 4-0 lead. Senior forward Sarah Ryan (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) scored on a pass from junior midfielder Theresa Kaiser (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline) in the 19th minute and freshman midfielder/forward Carlee Luehmann (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) scored the sixth and final goal of the first half in the 20th minute on a pass from sophomore defender Chrissy Ghirardi (O'Fallon, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) (O'Fallon/, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South).
 
Keomanivane scored her second goal of the game in the 58th minute unassisted and had assists on the next two Bearcat goals by senior defender Lindsey Freeman (Troy, Ill./Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad), her first career goal, in the 63rd minute and Nighohossian in the 67th minute. Eckelkamp dished out her final two assists of the game in the 68th and 75th minute on goals by freshman midfielder/forward Tanisha Reed (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East), her first collegiate goal, and sophomore forward Erin Kilian (St. Louis, Mo./Kennedy) (St. Louis, Mo./Kennedy). Eckelkamp's four assists tied former Bearcat Jan DeLaney who had four assists in a single game in 2001. Freshman midfielder/forward Jessica Muckensturm (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) also scored her first collegiate goal in the 77th minute on a pass from Reed to score McKendree's 13th and final goal in the shutout win. The Bearcat's 13 goals in the win are the most ever scored by McKendree in a single game in program history.
 
Junior Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) and sophomore Cassi Lofink (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) shared time in goal and earned the team shutout.
