(ST. LOUIS, Mo., September 16)—The McKendree University women's tennis team lost its fall season opener on Tuesday at NCAA Division II University of Missouri-St. Louis 6-3.
In singles action, Freshman No. 1 Adriana Gonzalez (Lima, Peru/San Agustin) (Lima, Peru) defeated Stephanie Thompson, 6-3, 6-1, to pick up the Bearcat's lone singles win. In doubles competition the Bearcats picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Adriana Gonzalez (Lima, Peru/San Agustin) and Guiliana Gonzalez (Lima, Peru) defeated Thompson and Aya Gumbo, 8-5, at No. 1 doubles and sophomore Emily Cimarolli (Belleville, Ill./Althoff) (Belleville, Ill./Althoff) and freshman Liz Otto (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) defeated Kristiana Lazarova and Katie Rynkiewich at No. 2 doubles 8-2.
The Bearcats will play at the Washington University Invitational in St. Louis on September 18-20.
