(HANNIBAL, Mo., Sept. 15)—The McKendree University volleyball team opened its American Midwest Conference schedule on Tuesday with a four-set victory at Hannibal-LaGrange College. The Bearcats won by scores of 25-17, 29-27, 20-25 and 25-17.
McKendree won its third consecutive match to improve to 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the AMC. The Bearcats will be on the road Thursday for another AMC contest at Park University. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
At Hannnibal-LaGrange, McKendree used a balanced attack to prevail in the league opener. Junior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) and sophomore right-side hitter Kaitlyn Kollmann (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro-East Lutheran) each had a team-high eight kills in the contest, while Kollmann had six blocks, including four solos. Sophomore right-side hitter Melinda Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) was close behind with seven attacks. Junior middle hitter Carrie Brickey (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) matched Kollmann with six blocks as junior outside hitter Tara Ryterski (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) had five blocks.
Junior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) registered 16 assists and sophomore setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) contributed 15 assists. Senior libero Lauren Sarver (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) handled a team-best 16 digs as senior outside hitter Andrea Lucas (Festus, Mo./Festus) (Festus, Mo./Festus) posted 14 digs.
