(ST. CHARLES, Mo., Sept. 17) – The No. 12 McKendree University women's soccer team defeated Lindenwood University 3-0 on Thursday night at Harlen C. Hunter stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
No. 12 McKendree, now 4-1-1 overall, will host Missouri Baptist University on Saturday night for an American Midwest Conference game at 5 p.m.
The Bearcats outshot the Lady Lions 6-1 in the first half, but the headed into halftime in a 0-0 tie. McKendree's halftime adjustment paid big dividends in the second half and freshman midfielder Carlee Luehmann (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) scored her third goal of the season in the 51st minute off a pass from sophomore defender Chrissy Ghirardi (O'Fallon, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) (O'Fallon, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South). Senior midfielder Alex Adams (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) made the score 2-0 with a goal in the 57th minute, her second of the season, on a pass from Ghirardi for her second assist of the game. The Bearcats put the game out of reach for Lindenwood in the 84th minute on a goal by sophomore forward Sulyn Keomanivane (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) from senior forward Sarah Ryan (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) that made the score 3-0.
Junior Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) improved to 4-1-1 on the season after playing 90 minutes in goal with two saves in the shutout victory.
