(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 19) – The No. 12 McKendree University women's soccer team won its fifth game of the season on Saturday night in a 2-1 win over Missouri Baptist University.
No. 12 McKendree, now 5-1-1 overall (2-0 AMC), will Westminster College (Mo.) on September, 21 at 5:30 p.m.
The game was scoreless at halftime, but the Bearcats took a 1-0 lead on an unassisted goal by sophomore forward Sulyn Keomanivane (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) in the 54th minute. The Spartans tied the game in the 68th minute on an unassisted goal by Taylor Hay, but the Bearcats retook the lead for good in the 78th minute on a goal by sophomore midfielder Chrissy Ghirardi (O'Fallon, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) (O'Fallon, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) with an assist from junior midfielder Ashley Varns (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood).
Junior Liz Yanko (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain) improved to 5-1-1 on the season after playing 90 minutes in goal with six saves in the victory.
