(Lebanon, Ill., Sept. 5) – The No. 23 McKendree University men's soccer team outshot visiting Avila University 18-3 on Saturday night in a 1-0 win at the inaugural McKendree Soccer Classic.
No. 23 McKendree, now 4-0 overall, hosts No. 12 Baker University Sunday at 5 p.m. at Leemon Field in the final men's game of the McK Classic.
McKendree had seven shots on goal in the contest and narrowly missed on scoring a goal 35 seconds into the contest, but headed into halftime with the game still knotted in a 0-0 tie. The Bearcats got on the board in the 73rd minute when an Avila player headed a McKendree cross into their own net to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead on an own goal and held on to pick up their fourth win of the season.
Sophomore Joe Sagar (Oldham, England/Hulme) (Oldham, England) improved to 4-0 on the season with the shutout win and had one save.
