(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 2) – Senior guard Haley Klingelhoefer (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) made a career-high seven three-pointers and scored 25 points to lead the No. 17 McKendree University Bearcats to a 83-56 win over Avila University on Saturday.
McKendree, now 10-3 overall, will open up American Midwest Conference on Thursday, January 7 at 5:30 p.m., against No. 22 William Woods University at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
Klingelhoefer's 25 points led all players, while junior guard Katie Fullerton (Coulterville, Ill./Coulterville) (Coulterville, Ill./Marissa) and sophomore forward Emily Woodland (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) (Eureka, Mo./Eureka) each had 14 points. Woodland's 14 points was also a career-high.
The Bearcats led 35-34 at the half, but the Lady Eagles built a 42-35 with 17:32 remaining in the game. McKendree tied the game, 51-51, on a steal and layup by Woodland with 10:38 left in the half, but McKendree made six three-pointers down the stretch to pull away in the contest and earn their tenth win of the season.
Alyson Young scored 20 points to lead the Lady Eagles and Jaime Kenney scored 16 points for Avila in the loss.
