No. 4 McKENDREE WRESTLING TEAM DEFEATS THREE-TIME DEFENDING NATIONAL CHAMPION LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY, 29-18, TO ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP SEMIFINALS AT NWCA/CLIFF KEEN NATIONAL DUALS

(CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, Jan. 9)- The No. 4 McKendree University wrestling team advanced to the championship semifnals at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals on Saturday after defeating three-time defending national champion Lindenwood University 29-18.

The Bearcats will face No.1 Notre Dame College (Ohio) in the championship semifinals at 11 a.m., on Sunday. Notre Dame defeated No. 8 seed Oklahoma City University 42-0 in the championship quarterfinals on Saturday.

McKendree started the dual down 6-0 due to a forfeit loss at 125 pounds, but back-to-back wins by fall by junior Wade Lowe (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) (Godfrey, Ill./Alton) at 133 pounds and sophomore Kyle Williams (Scott Air Force Base, Ill./Mascoutah) (Scott Air Force Base, Ill./Mascoutah) at 141 pounds gave the Bearcats a 12-6 lead.

The Bearcats lost their next three matches to fall behind 12-18, only to pick up back-to-back decision wins by senior Josh Bryant (Tuttle, Okla./Tuttle) (Tuttle, Okla./Tuttle) and junior Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) (Ste. Genevieve, Mo./Ste. Genevieve) to tie it up 18-18.

Defending national champion Andrew Sanchez (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon) (Shiloh, Ill./O'Fallon) earned a tech fall win at 197 pounds to push the McKendree lead to 23-18 and senior heavyweight Cedric Powell (Duncan, Okla./Duncan) (Duncan, Okla./Duncan) put an exclamation mark on the win by pinning Tyler Porras in the second period to give the Bearcats the 29-18 win.
