(EVANSTON, Ill., Nov. 14)- The No. 4 McKendree University wrestling team had five wrestlers earn multiple wins on Sunday at the Northwestern University Duals. The Bearcats fell to University of Northern Iowa, but bounced back to defeat University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and University of Wisconsin-Parkside.

The No. 4 Bearcats will host No. 2 Campbellsville University on Friday, November 19th at 7 p.m.

In its first dual of the day, McKendree fell to NCAA Division I University of Northern Iowa 34-9. Earning victories were senior's Wade Lowe (Godfrey, Ill., Alton) and Andrew Sanchez (Shiloh, Ill., O'Fallon), and sophomore Kyle Reid (Belleville, Ill., Belleville East). Lowe earned a 6-1 decision over Steven Fitzgerald, 6-1, at 133 pounds, while Sanchez and Reid also earned decsion victories at 197 and 184 pounds, respectively.

McKendree bounced back in its second match and won eight matches, five by pinfall, to defeat University of Wisconsin-Whitewater 40-10. Trailing 6-0 after a forfeit loss at 125 pounds, the Bearcats had back-to-back pins at 133 and 141 pounds by Lowe and junior Kyle Williams (Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Mascoutah) to take a 12-6 lead. A major decision by freshman Nick Koren (Cary, N.C., Cary Senior) at 149 pounds over Adam Spatchek pushed McKendree's lead out to 16-6. Following a loss at 157 pounds, the Bearcats went on to win their final five matches with pinfall victories by sophomore Isaiah Gonzalez (Montgomery, Ill., Montini Catholic), senior Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Ste. Genevieve) and Sanchez to roll to the 40-10 victory.

McKendree trailed 22-12 heading into the final three matches against Wisconsin-Parkside, but came away with a slim 25-22 win. The Bearcats held a 9-6 lead after three matches, but two consecutive losses at 149 and 157 pounds gave UWP a 18-9 lead. Gonzalez earned a decision win at 165 pounds over Matthew Gille, 7-2, to bring McKendree within six, but a major decison loss at 174 pounds put the Bearcats down 22-16. Reid earned a 15-6 major decision over Ryan Woods at 184 pounds and a forfeit win at 197 pounds tied the match 22-22 with one match remaining. Sanchez defeated James Malechek in a 4-1 decision to seal the McKendree victory.
