COLEMAN’S BIG NIGHT PROPELS McKENDREE HOCKEY TEAM TO 9-2 WIN OVER MISSOURI STATE

J. David Coleman had three goals and three assists for the Bearcats in their win over Missouri State

(LEBANON, Ill., Dec. 3)—Junior wing J. David Coleman (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) (Budapest, Hungary/Fort Zumwalt West) scored three goals and added three assists to lead the McKendree University hockey team to a 9-2 victory Friday night at home against Missouri State University.

 

Sophomore wing Nic Rolla (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./SIU Edwardsville) chipped in with two goals and two assists as the Bearcats improved to 9-3-1 on the season. McKendree will close out the first half of its 2010-11 season Saturday when it takes on Missouri State against at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.

 

Sophomore wing Matt Seelbach (Brentwood, Mo./John Burroughs) opened the scoring for McKendree with three minutes left in the first period before senior defenseman Alec Steiner (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) (Swansea, Ill./Belleville East) made it 2-0 with just 98 seconds left in the stanza.

 

Rolla's first goal of the night made it 3-0 midway through the second period before Coleman netted a shorthanded goal for a 4-0 McKendree lead. After a Missouri State goal, junior defenseman Ryan Donahue (Levittown, Pa./Truman) (Levittown, Pa./Truman) tallied with just 27 seconds left in the period to give the Bearcats a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

 

Freshman center Dylan Mueth (New Baden, IL/Belleville East) (New Baden, Ill./Belleville East) scored on the power play to start the Bearcats' scoring in the third quarter. The Bears answered with a goal before Coleman finished off his hat trick with consecutive tallies. Rolla closed out the scoring for McKendree with an unassisted shorthanded goal with 42 seconds to play.

 

Senior Mike Stier (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) stopped 43 of 45 Missouri State shots to pick up his ninth win of the season.
