(LEBANON, Ill., February 23)—The McKendree University men's tennis team opened its 2010 season Friday with a 6-3 loss at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville, Ind.
The Bearcats picked up one singles victories and two wins in doubles competition against the Screaming Eagles. Freshman Fabio Tschuyia (Sao Paulo, Brazil) was the lone McKendree winner in singles action. Tschuyia defeated Kory Poland in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-3.
Tschuyia and sophomore Doug Mennerick (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) were victorious in the No. 3 doubles slot, 8-6, while senior Danny Gonzalez (Lima, Peru) and freshman Barnabas Toth (Cegleo, Hungary/Kossuth Lajos) (Budapest, Hungary) teamed for an 8-6 triumph at No. 2 doubles.
McKendree will return to action on Friday against the University of Illinois at Springfield at the Kings Point Tennis Center in Belleville, Ill.
